Spotlight on: County College Workforce Development Results

The four County College partners are instrumental in the New Jersey Biotechnology Workforce Investment Initiative, which pools resources of the state’s community colleges to offer customized training to businesses.  In total, New Jersey’s 19 community colleges serve over 55,000 members of the state’s workforce through customized workforce training programs.

The training, which focuses on management development, communication skills, computer skills, finance, regulatory compliance, and process improvement has already been very successful.  Since July, when the first class was conducted, nearly 20 companies have participated or committed to participate in the delivery of more than 70 courses that will train almost 900 employees.  Depending on company needs, the training can be offered at the workplace or at any of 63 community college locations.

With training costs covered for qualified companies as long as it is during employees’ work day, this is a cost-effective way to provide training on topics such as Good Manufacturing Practices and Project Management.  Or, for organizations implementing Office 2007, the computer skills courses can be a quick way to get everyone up-to-speed.
